Students Invited To Participate In Essay Contest Honoring Military
Top Prize is $500

PENSACOLA, Fla. – As part of the 2010 Military Appreciation Month festivities, the Pensacola Bay Area Chamber of Commerce and PenAir Federal Credit Union will sponsor a school essay writing contest.

Twelve winners will receive U.S. Savings Bonds, with a top prize of $500. Students will be recognized at the annual essay contest awards luncheon on May 19 at the Mustin Beach Officer’s Club, aboard NAS Pensacola.

The contest is open to all students from kindergarten to 12th grade in Escambia County whether in public, private or home-schools. Topics are associated by age group and are centered on the military and patriotism. For essay guidelines, please visit www.PensacolaChamber.com. Deadline is April 23.

The essay contest is just one of the ways that the local community can participate in Military Appreciation Month. In 2007, the Chamber was honored for its work with Military Appreciation Month with the prestigious George Washington Honor Medal from Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge.

“During our local Military Appreciation Month, the greater Pensacola area will recognize the achievements and sacrifices made by the men and woman of the armed forces of our local community and of the entire country,” said Debi Panyko, armed services program manager at the Pensacola Bay Area Chamber of Commerce. “It is the one special month of the year when all of us say ‘Thank You’ to the service members in our area.”
