Our recent membership survey showed us that our members want a free, strictly networking event with door prizes held at various locations around town. That is exactly what Greeters is.

Join us for a true networking experience on Friday, May 30 from 7:30 a.m. until 8:45 a.m. at University Pines Gracious Retirement Living located at 8991 University Parkway in Pensacola.

Deluxe Tour of China Pre-tour Briefing

Deluxe Tour of China

Our fall trip to China is almost fully booked. We will be visiting Beijing, Shanghai, Suzhou and Hangzhou from October 19 through 28. The Chamber will host its final pre-tour meeting on Monday, June 2 at 5:30 p.m. at the Pensacola Chamber. This will give interested individuals, members and non-members, the opportunity to hear details about the trip and to ask questions. The University of West Florida will show an excellent PowerPoint presentation that shows the tourist spots we will be visiting such as Tian an Men Square and The Great Wall.

Gopher Club Breakfast

Join us on June 10 at the Pensacola Civic Center for Gopher Club Breakfast. The event begins with breakfast at 7:00 a.m. and the program is from 7:30 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. This month's guest will be Dr. John Cavanaugh. He will give an overview of the importance STEM—Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, that will play a significant role in the future of our region. Examples include providing key academic programs to serve the needs of emerging economic sectors and the military, Lambda Rail, the BEST House, the new Science and Engineering Building, connections with K-12 including the BEST Robotics competition and other science and engineering competitions, and many others. The University of West Florida is this month's Gopher Club Breakfast sponsor.

Doing Business with Europe Seminar

Mark your calendar & reserve your seat for Enterprise Florida's seminar on Doing Business with Europe. The seminar is hosted by the Pensacola Bay Area Chamber of Commerce on Thursday, June 12 at the Gulf Coast Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship (PJC downtown center) located at 418 W. Hospitality Roundtable Luncheon

The next Hospitality Roundtable Luncheon is on June 17 at the Angus from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. The speaker will be Becky Bray, CRA Administrator with the City of Pensacola. She will provide an update on upcoming events in downtown Pensacola.

The cost of the luncheon is $12 for HRT members and $20 for non-members. Payment should be made at the door with checks payable to Pensacola Bay Area Chamber of Commerce.

Youth Biz 2015 Advisory Council Appointment

Willie Farrow, President of YouthBiz2015, has been appointed to serve on the Entrepreneurship Advisory Council for Florida’s Great Northwest, Inc. Representing 16 counties in Northwest Florida, Florida’s Great Northwest is a regional economic development organization that strives to improve economic life in the region.

"The mission of my organization, YouthBiz2015, is to promote business and entrepreneurial skills to the youth," said the president of the nonprofit youth mentoring program in Northwest Florida. "I look forward to working with Florida's Great Northwest to support entrepreneurial development and small business growth in Northwest Florida."

In this new role, Farrow will join the ranks of this private, non-profit organization's efforts that affect approximately 70,000 jobs to Northwest Florida. The Chamber congratulates Willie Farrow.

Pensacola Celebrates 450 Years

Pensacola is throwing one of the longest parties in history to celebrate having the longest history in North America. To commemorate its 450th anniversary, Pensacola will celebrate for 450 days from May 23, 2008 to August 15, 2009. Pensacola was founded in 1559, six years before St. Augustine. Your Chamber now offers a link on our homepage for members that provides a connection to a nonpartisan website offering access to information about the 2008 election. With a presidential race, 25 congressional seats, 140 of the 160 Florida legislative seats, and countless local elected officials up for election in November, the Pensacola Bay Area Chamber of Commerce is encouraging local businesses and employees to learn about the candidates and vote.

We are providing this service to ensure that employers and employees have easy, one-stop access to information about the candidates and issues that will be on the ballot. We encourage everyone to take action and become informed before going to the voting booth.
